I am traveling to Negril, Jamaica to the Beaches resort. I would like to know if I need any special vaccinations or power outlet adapter. I would also like to know if the water is clean there or if bottled water should be the only the only thing drank. Thanks

You do not need any vaccinations. I would, however, bring some insect repellent and some Benadryl (for itching). In the evening there are small bugs that will bite your feet and ankles if you are in the sand. Its more of an annoyance than anything with the itching.

The water is definitely clean. I’ve yet to get sick on the water, and I drink LOTS of it. I would caution you though–if you go to an eatery off the resort and you just aren’t completely comfortable with the setting, feel free to order a bottle of water.

Beaches runs on the same electrical current as the US. I’ve actually only ran into one small resort that wasn’t on our current. Most hotels and resorts have upgraded to our electrical current in the last ten years. So, the answer is no adapter is needed.

Vacation destination? Where is the best place in America to travel for a GREAT Weekend?

I’m taking this vacation alone (maybe a couple of the fellas if they clear it with the wife). I’ve excluded NY and La’s Vegas because I’ll be going to those places in the upcoming months. This is my first separate vacation (without the wifey) and I’d like to go someplace with some seriously good nightlife or Great roller coasters.

Things I like to do on Vacation…

Drink
Club (Hip Hop or Mixed)
Stay out late
Gamble (but somewhere that has other attractions or I may exceed my budget)

or

Ride Roller coaster (If there are any theme parks open in April I’d go visist if they have an exceptional roller coaster.

I know some of you have had exceptional Vacations and if you could recommend a place I’d appreciate it, thank you.

New Orleans… you can do all of this except ride roller coasters. There’s a couple of casinos just steps from the French Quarter, lots of clubs of all sorts, there’s no last call, and it is a fun, fun, fun place! New Orleans is open for business post-Katrina and if you stick to the tourist areas you would hardly notice a hurricane had even been there. But the folks who work there could sure use your tip money, and will be very appreciative. I was there a few months ago, and I got stellar service everywhere I went. Had a blast!

I love to travel all the time, and I am looking to make a profit as well. I have student loans to be paid back in the future. Is it possible to make a profit off of timeshare?

Can I charge friends to use my property? Can I make a profit if I sell it in the next 5 or 6 years? If you are not familiar with timeshares, I’d recommend that you stay far far away. First, you do not have any equity in a timeshare. Any appreciation that is gained by the property goes to the timeshare company that runs it. Secondly, you are locked into a contract that obligates you to pay whether you use it (or find someone to use it like a renter). These annual maintenance fees consistently increase over time unlike a traditional mortgage. Thirdly, it’s not necessarily easy finding a renter and you must get permission from the timeshare to rent. Lastly, it is very difficult to get rid of a timeshare should you decide you want out. There is an abundant supply but buyers are hard to find. Large timeshare companies pay upwards of 60% of the upfront cost just in sales & marketing. Most likely you don’t have that kind of budget.

Timeshares should never be considered as investments.
